Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday

I found quite a few pictures of Palm Sunday processions that my mum participated in with her friends in the 1950s. I remember doing that myself when I was a kid. In the Netherlands Palm Sunday crosses are decorated with buxus branches, candy, eggs and bread, which is the rooster on top. Only children walk in these processions. In order to find something more about the tradition I stumbled upon the lovely 1961 stamp designs by Hil Bottema. She designed a whole range of so called children's stamps, some with Dutch traditions like Sinterklaas and Sint Maarten.

This is a personal project with scenes from my family's photos drawn on vintage art catalogue pages. Although it's an art project with personal connotation, a lot of people can relate to the sweet and oftentimes funny scenes in those long-ago days.
